SISCU’S DIARY
Top 5 Casual Sushi Spots in Barcelona
Hey! I’m Francesc Garrido, General Manager at Jacqueline, though everyone calls me Siscu. I was born and raised in Barcelona, and one of the things I love most about my city is its cultural scene. It’s incredibly rich and diverse! The thing is, I’ve realised that many people don’t know the places us locals choose for good food, art, music and many other things.
That’s why I’ve decided to create a personal diary, so that I can share my own recommendations and some of Barcelona’s hidden spots that you may not have discovered yet.
I truly believe that food, art, and tradition are meant to be shared, so I’m excited to introduce you to my diary. Through it, I hope you’ll fall in love with Barcelona as much as I have.
Enjoy!

- Can Kenji
This is a Japanese izakaya-style restaurant in Eixample. From the outside, it might not catch your eye, but once you step inside, you’ll probably thank me. Can Kenji serves authentic Japanese dishes and sushi made with fresh and high-quality ingredients.
I really enjoy their selection of shareable plates, often with subtle Mediterranean touches. The space is small and unpretentious, but the food is outstanding, the prices are reasonable, and the overall izakaya experience feels truly special.
P.S. I highly recommend making a reservation!
2. Kibuka
This sushi spot in Gràcia is definitely one of those places I keep going back to. I love it for its fresh uramakis, wide variety of rolls and some fusion touches, from classic sashimi to more creative combinations.
The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, and the service is genuinely friendly. It’s not the most formal sushi experience in town, and that’s exactly the point. It has a relaxed vibe and a generous menu that make it a great go-to when you’re craving casual Japanese food with real personality.
